Rate of force development and maximal force: reliability and difference between non-climbers, skilled and international climbers

Guillaume Levernier et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the differences in finger flexor maximal force and rate of force development among climbers of different skill levels. The results showed high reliability in test-retest comparisons and within-session testing, suggesting these variables could be useful for monitoring training progress.

The finger flexors occlusion threshold in sport-climbers: an exploratory study on its indirect approximation

Pedro Bergua et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore whether the occlusion threshold in the finger flexors could affect the specific climbing endurance of climbers. The results suggest that the occlusion threshold in the finger flexors may vary among climbers, regardless of their strength and ability level.

Performance Assessment for Rock Climbers: The International Rock Climbing Research Association Sport-Specific Test Battery

Nick Draper et al.

Summary: The study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of a battery of 10 measures designed to assess the key physiological parameters for successful rock climbing performance. Results showed that the flexibility and strength tests were only partially successful in differentiating across climber abilities, while the power and endurance tests performed well with regard to validity and reliability, particularly the finger hang and powerslap tests.
