Optimal mission aborting in multistate systems with storage

Gregory Levitin et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the modeling and optimization of mission aborting rules (MARs) for multistate systems with product storage, aiming to maximize the mission success probability (MSP) while meeting a desired level of damage avoidance probability (DAP). A numerical algorithm is proposed to evaluate the MSP and DAP of the system, and a constrained optimization problem is formulated and solved to find the optimal MAR. The study also investigates the influences of storage capacity, storage performance constraints, and desired DAP level on system performance metrics and MAR optimization solutions using a power system example.

Reliability evaluation of demand-based warm standby systems with capacity storage

Heping Jia et al.

Summary: A novel reliability model for demand-based warm standby systems with capacity storage is formulated in this study, exploring the chronological characteristics of warm standby components and analyzing the effects on system reliability. A multi-valued decision diagram is developed to evaluate system reliability considering successful activation probabilities of warm standby components.

Reliability analysis of a two-dissimilar-unit warm standby repairable system with priority in use

Jinting Wang et al.

Summary: This paper studies a warm standby repairable system with two dissimilar units and one repairman. The reliability measures such as the first failure time distribution, the mean time to the first failure, the system's steady-state availability, and the expectation of system failure numbers in the interval are obtained by using the Markov renewal method.

A Fast and Accurate Reliability Approximation Method for Heterogeneous Cold Standby Sparing Systems

Chaonan Wang et al.

Summary: Cold standby sparing is a widely-used fault-tolerant technique where unpowered spare units are activated to replace malfunctioned on-line units. This paper proposes a fast and accurate reliability approximation method for heterogeneous 1-out-of-n cold standby systems with non-identical components, and verifies its accuracy and efficiency through comprehensive case studies. Results show that the proposed method can estimate the reliability of large-scale CSSs efficiently and accurately.

Reliability modeling of two-unit cold standby systems: A periodic switching approach

Z. Behboudi et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a switching policy suitable for units that recover with discontinuous activity and get younger, which improves the system reliability by optimizing unit performance. By considering the cost of switching and system profit, the study investigates the optimal time interval for switching to maximize system profit.
