Tailoring strength and ductility of high-entropy CrMnFeCoNi alloy by adding Al

Xin Xian et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the strengthening of CrMnFeCoNi alloy by adding aluminum. The experimental results show that a phase structure transition from fcc to bcc occurs when a sufficient amount of aluminum is added, leading to an increase in yield strength and hardness. By adjusting the alloy composition, it is possible to achieve high strength and sufficient ductility in high-entropy alloys.

Improved tensile properties of Al0.5CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy by tailoring microstructures

Si-Zhe Niu et al.

Summary: The effect of heat treatment on microstructure and tensile properties of the Al0.5CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy was investigated, showing significant improvements in both aspects. Heat treatment altered the morphology of bcc phases and enhanced tensile properties, with ultimate tensile strength increased by approximately 60% under 850 degrees C heat treatment. Fracture analysis indicated different fracture modes under various heat-treated conditions, with a mixture of quasi-cleavage and ductile fracture observed at 850 degrees C.

Stacking Fault Driven Phase Transformation in CrCoNi Medium Entropy Alloy

Haiyan He et al.

Summary: In this study, an in-situ loading study with neutron diffraction revealed a bulk fcc-to-hcp phase transformation in CrCoNi at 15 K under tensile loading. The nucleation of the hcp phase was shown to be triggered by intrinsic stacking faults, adding to the numerous deformation mechanisms available in CrCoNi and supporting its unusually large ductility at low temperatures.

A medium-range structure motif linking amorphous and crystalline states

Si Lan et al.

Summary: Amorphous materials lack long-range order but exhibit ordered structures at short and medium range, with the nature of medium-range ordering often remaining elusive. A study of an intermediate crystalline cubic phase in a Pd-Ni-P amorphous alloy revealed a six-membered tricapped trigonal prism cluster (6M-TTP) as the medium-range ordered structure. The structural link between the amorphous and crystalline phases at the medium-range length scale was demonstrated, highlighting the role of 6M-TTP clusters in distinguishing crystalline and amorphous phases.
