Hip OA is a degenerative disease that affects the aging population, and can be diagnosed and classified using radiography. CT and MRI can provide detailed evaluation and aid in treatment planning.
Hip OA is a disease process that impacts the aging population. OA of the hip is the result of degeneration of the articular cartilage, underlying bone and supporting soft tissue structures. Radiography is the first-line modality for imaging OA. KL system is one of several classification systems of radiographic OA, assessing JSN, sclerosis, osteophytes, and bony deformities. CT can provide detailed evaluation of the hip with multiplanar reformats and can be used for preoperative planning. MRI can assess bone marrow signal, articular cartilage damage, and labral abnormalities. It is important to consider other potential etiologies in the appropriate clinical setting, including osteonecrosis, rapidly progressive arthritis, and inflammatory and infectious arthropathies.
