Inhibition of endogenous ouabain by atrial natriuretic peptide is a guanylyl cyclase independent effect

Gulay Tegin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that ANP treatment inhibits basal EO secretion, with the most prolonged inhibition occurring at physiologic concentrations. Inhibition of guanylyl cyclase also reduces EO secretion. The combined treatment with ANP and ODQ further enhances the inhibitory effects on EO release.

Role of endogenous ouabain in the etiology of bipolar disorder

Rif S. El-Mallakh et al.

Summary: The dysregulation of endogenous ouabain is a promising candidate for understanding the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder, as it may lead to abnormal neuronal activation and inflammation signals. Further studies are needed to solidify the role of this system.
