Optimization of the coagulation-flocculation process for vegetable oil refinery wastewater using a full factorial design

Chaymae Haddaji et al.

Summary: In this study, a full factorial design was used to investigate the effect of various variables on turbidity and COD removal in vegetable oil refineries wastewater treatment. The results showed that coagulation-flocculation was effective for turbidity removal regardless of the pollutant load. Under optimal conditions, high turbidity and COD removal efficiencies were achieved. The study suggests that physical pretreatment is a promising option for efficient coagulation-flocculation.

Short-term effects of olive oil mill wastewater application on soil water repellency

Giuseppe Bombino et al.

Summary: Land spreading of olive mill wastewater can lead to a slight increase in soil water repellency in the short term, but this effect diminishes after two weeks, with the organic compounds in the wastewater playing a significant role in influencing soil water repellency. Overall, the practice of OMW land spreading did not significantly change soil water repellency, especially in loam or silty clay loam soil compared to sandy loam texture, and is more viable in spring or autumn to reduce the risk of groundwater contamination.

Optimization of cadmium ions biosorption by fish scale from aqueous solutions using factorial design analysis and Monte Carlo simulation studies

Adil Jaafar et al.

Summary: The study found that Fish scales of Sardina pilchardus had a maximum biosorption capacity of 52.08 mg g(-1) for Cd(II), and the optimum Cd(II) removal rate was 88.2% under optimized conditions. Monte Carlo simulation showed that the interaction Cd(II) - hydroxyapatite was more favorable than Cd(II) - collagen.
