Total phenolic and flavonoid contents, antioxidant, antidiabetic and antiplasmodial activities of Garcinia forbesii King: A correlation study

Johanis Wairata et al.

Summary: This study investigated the total phenolic and flavonoid contents, in vitro antioxidant, antidiabetic and antiplasmodial activities of four extracts attained from the stem bark of Garcinia forbesii King. The results revealed that n-hexane and methanol extracts showed significant antiplasmodial activity, while dichloromethane extract exhibited promising antidiabetic activity.

Interrelation analysis between phenolic compounds and in vitro antioxidant activities in Pu-erh tea

Bingsong Ma et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between the phenolic compounds and the antioxidant activities of Pu-erh tea, and demonstrates the impact of fermentation on the chemical composition and antioxidant properties of the tea. Certain compounds were found to enhance the antioxidant activities, while others showed negative correlations. Multivariate regression equations were also developed to efficiently evaluate the antioxidant activities of Pu-erh tea.

Influence of seasonal variation on phenolic composition and antioxidant capacity of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) hybrids

Rashmi Kumari et al.

Summary: This study assessed seasonal variation of biochemical traits in 21 eggplant hybrids, finding that traits expression varied with seasons, but ranking of hybrids for total phenolics and anthocyanin content remained consistent between seasons. Higher temperatures during summer months led to higher phenolic compounds, ascorbic acid, and antioxidant capacity.

Natural and synthetic flavonoid derivatives as new potential tyrosinase inhibitors: a systematic review

Rami J. Obaid et al.

Summary: Tyrosinase is a crucial oxidase in both plants and animals, playing a key role in melanin production and potentially causing skin issues if melanin is overproduced. Various skin-whitening products are available to reduce melanin formation, while synthetic tyrosinase inhibitors are needed for their protective effects against skin pigmentation.
