Lamb's problem for a half-space coupled to a generic distribution of oscillators at the surface

Xingbo Pu et al.

Summary: The study proposed an analytical framework to model the effect of single and multiple mechanical surface oscillators on the dynamics of vertically polarized elastic waves propagating in a half space. Results demonstrate that the approach can accurately model elastic waves interacting with single resonators, couples of resonators, and arrays of resonators, capturing complex dynamics phenomena such as wave conversion and wave localization.

Design of a resonant Luneburg lens for surface acoustic waves

Rafael Fuentes-Dominguez et al.

Summary: In this study, additive manufacturing was used to create a graded index metasurface for surface acoustic waves on an aluminium slab, simulating the functionality of a Luneburg lens to focus plane SAWs. The lens design was validated to only work within a narrow band, and comparison between ray analysis and experimental results indicated potential for acoustic shielding near the acoustic bandgaps.

Localizing Elastic Edge Waves via the Topological Rainbow Effect

Bogdan Ungureanu et al.

Summary: By combining topological physics and graded metamaterials, a topological metasurface has been designed to control and redirect elastic waves. This metasurface strategically converts incident slow waves into robust modes with different envelope modulations, utilizing a crystalline perforated elastic plate with varying depths in a square lattice. The topological rainbow effect observed in the study leverages concepts from quantum valley Hall effect and electromagnetic metamaterials, demonstrating potential applications in switches, filters, and energy harvesters.

Rayleigh waves in locally resonant metamaterials

Farhad Zeighami et al.

Summary: The study introduces an original dispersion relation for vertically polarized surface waves in resonant metamaterials, removing the constraint of metasurfaces. It shows the existence of a band gap in the spectrum of Rayleigh surface waves and investigates the impact of resonant layer thickness on frequency stop-band and wave attenuation. The research provides insights into mechanical waves in metamaterials and offers an analytical framework for vertically polarized surface waves in resonant and partially resonant waveguides.
