Generalized scaling of spin qubit coherence in over 12,000 host materials

Shun Kanai et al.

Summary: In this study, an algebraic expression for the quantum coherence time (T-2) of spin defect centers in host compounds is uncovered based on cluster correlation expansion (CCE) technique. By investigating over 12,000 host compounds, silicon carbide (SiC) is found to possess the longest coherence times among widegap nonchalcogenides, while more than 700 chalcogenides possess longer T-2 than SiC. Potential host compounds with promisingly long T-2 up to 47 ms are suggested, paving the way for exploring unprecedented functional materials for quantum applications.

Spin-spin interactions in defects in solids from mixed all-electron and pseudopotential first-principles calculations

Summary: The study presents a real-space approach based on density functional theory for calculating spin-Hamiltonian parameters, allowing calculations for systems with more than 1000 atoms. Results show that only a small number of atoms surrounding the defect need to be treated at the all-electron level in order to achieve overall all-electron accuracy. Coherence times were computed using the cluster correlation expansion method, emphasizing the importance of accurate spin-Hamiltonian parameters for quantitative predictions of spin dynamics.
