Review on adsorptive removal of metal ions and dyes from wastewater using tamarind-based bio-composites

Vipin Malik et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the efficiency of tamarind-based nanocomposites as potential adsorbents for various harmful organic and inorganic water pollutants. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the fabrication routes, adsorption isotherms, kinetic and thermodynamic modeling, as well as the adsorption mechanism and recyclability of these adsorbents. Factors affecting the adsorption behavior and a comparison with other nanomaterials are also discussed. Based on the literature surveyed, there is great potential for future research on tamarind-based nanocomposites as low-cost biomaterials in water purification.

Synthesis of mussel-inspired silica nanocomposites for efficient removal of methyl orange

Bohui Wang et al.

Summary: Novel SiO2 nanocomposites CP@SiO2-NH2 were synthesized via mussel-inspired co-deposition using inexpensive catechol (CCh) and polyethyleneimine (PEI). The CP@SiO2-NH2 exhibited excellent adsorption capacity, following pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm model. It also showed great regeneration properties, indicating potential applications in Methyl Orange (MO) removal.

Selective sorptive removal of Methyl Red from individual and binary component solutions by mesoporous organosilicas of MCM-41 type

Nadiia Roik et al.

Summary: Chemically immobilized organosilicas were prepared to sorb Methyl Red dye effectively within pH range of 2.5-5, with kinetic analysis showing pseudo-second-order model fit. Equilibrium sorption parameters were calculated using Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller models. Selective sorption of acid dyes on mesoporous silicas was found to depend on structural characteristics and protolytic state of silica surface as well as the acid dye itself.

Superfast Water Transport Zwitterionic Polymeric Nanofluidic Membrane Reinforced by Metal-Organic Frameworks

Yan-Li Ji et al.

Summary: Nanofluidics derived from low-dimensional nanosheets and protein nanochannels have shown great potential for advanced applications in catalysis, sensing, and separation. This study successfully synthesized modular nanofluidics by confined growth of ultra-thin MOFs in a polymer membrane, improving water permeability and solute selectivity. Experimental and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed that the rigid and continuous nanochannels in MOF@ZNPM shifted water transport from high-friction-resistance conventional viscous flow to ultrafast nanofluidic flow, achieving record-high performance among polymer nanofiltration membranes.
