Strain Transfer Function of Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors and Back-Calculation of the Base Strain Field

Sangyoung Yoon et al.

Summary: This study derived a strain transfer function to understand how strain in the optical fiber is reduced and distorted based on the variation of the strain field. A method for back-calculating the base structure's strain field using the strain distribution in the optical fiber sensor was proposed, leading to enhanced strain field estimation accuracy when using distributed optical fiber sensors.
