Effect of manufacturing processes and multi-walled carbon nanotube loading on mechanical and dynamic properties of glass fiber reinforced composites

Thulasidhas Dhilipkumar et al.

Summary: The current study investigates the combined effect of carbon nanotube reinforcement and manufacturing methods on the mechanical and vibrational behavior of composite materials. The results demonstrate that the co-curing manufacturing method with 1% weight fraction of CNTs improves the tensile strength, while the secondary bonding method with 0.25% weight fraction of CNTs provides the highest flexural strength. Modal analysis reveals that the selection of appropriate manufacturing techniques and CNT weight fractions can enhance both the mechanical properties and vibrational characteristics of the composites.

Improving mechanical toughness and mold resistance of bamboo/high-density polyethylene composites by pretreatment with the fungus Trametes versicolor

Xin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, bamboo-plastic composites (BPCs) were modified using the white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor, resulting in improved elongation at break, impact strength, and mold resistance. The enhanced mechanical toughness was attributed to the selective removal of lignin, increased specific surface areas, and enhanced mechanical interlocking. Furthermore, the bioprocess efficiently improved the mold resistance of BPCs, providing a new eco-friendly method for outdoor living structures.
