Numerical simulation study of ballistic performance of Al2O3/aramid-carbon hybrid FRP laminate composite structures subject to impact loading

Shibao Wu et al.

Summary: Aramid-carbon hybrid FRP laminates are widely used in the design of ceramic/FRP laminate composite armor systems due to their excellent mechanical properties. The stacking sequence of the aramid-carbon hybrid FRP laminate has been found to significantly impact the ballistic performance and structural integrity of the composite system. Specifically, when the carbon fiber is stacked at the top of the laminate and the proportion of carbon fiber remains constant, the ballistic performance and geometric integrity of the composite structure are optimized, providing an innovative approach to enhance the ballistic performance of ceramic/FRP laminate composite armor systems.

Effects of debonding defects on the postbuckling and failure behaviors of composite stiffened panel under uniaxial compression

Ruixue Ji et al.

Summary: Research has shown that debonding defects can alter the post-buckling deformation modes and development paths of stiffened panels, leading to varying degrees of deflection and distortion in structures. This can change the failure behaviors and processes of composite laminates, further weakening the ultimate failure strength of the entire composite stiffened panels.

Influence of Failure Criteria and Intralaminar Damage Progression Numerical Models on the Prediction of the Mechanical Behavior of Composite Laminates

Aniello Riccio et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effectiveness of local damage evolution methods and failure criteria in simulating intralaminar damage propagation in composites under static loading conditions. A numerical model based on Ansys User Defined Material subroutine is proposed for predicting damage evolution within specific lamina of composite laminate. Different failure criteria and degradation rules based on Continuum Damage Mechanics are considered, and the simulations are validated against experimental data to assess the accuracy of the predictions.
