Challenges and Opportunities in Cancer Drug Resistance

Richard A. Ward et al.

Summary: Recent years have seen significant progress in targeted cancer therapies, but drug resistance remains a common challenge. Researchers are exploring new approaches to overcome resistance, such as increasing drug selectivity and potency, using alternative chemical structures, changing mechanisms of action, and targeting allosteric pockets.

Features of third generation photosensitizers used in anticancer photodynamic therapy: Review

Ivan S. Mfouo-Tynga et al.

Summary: Cancer is a major global health issue and photodynamic therapy using photosensitizers is an approved therapeutic option. The success of this therapy depends on the quality and improvement of photosensitizer drugs, with bioconjugation and encapsulation with targeting moieties playing a key role in developing more efficient photosensitizers for cancer treatment. Despite significant advances, the development of next-generation photosensitizers is still mainly in the developmental stage.

Evaluation of the correlation between porphyrin accumulation in cancer cells and functional positions for application as a drug carrier

Koshi Nishida et al.

Summary: This study revealed that the functional positions of porphyrins have a significant impact on their accumulation in cancer cells. Meso-derivatives accumulate more in cancer cells than beta-derivatives, and porphyrins with less bulky substituents tend to actively accumulate in cancer cells. Additionally, the binding position of porphyrin affects factors involved in transmembrane permeation mechanisms, ultimately impacting accumulation in cancer cells.
