GABA synaptopathy promotes the elevation of caspases 3 and 9 as pro-apoptotic markers in Egyptian patients with autism spectrum disorder

Afaf El-Ansary et al.

Summary: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by reduced social communication and repetitive behaviors. Studies have shown that GABA levels are reduced in ASD patients, while levels of caspases 3 and 9 are elevated. Analysis of data and curves suggest that these biomarkers may be utilized for the diagnosis of autism.

Validation of the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) to screen for atypical social behaviors in juvenile macaques

Z. Kovacs Balint et al.

Summary: This study aimed to adapt and validate the adult macaque SRS (mSRS) for use in juvenile macaques equivalent to mid-childhood in humans. Through traditional behavioral observations on juvenile macaques living in complex social groups, the study found that the jmSRS can identify variability in social responsiveness of juvenile rhesus monkeys and shows strong construct/predictive validity, as well as sensitivity to detect atypical social behaviors in young male and female macaques across social status.

Racial and ethnic disparities in benefits eligibility and spending among adults on the autism spectrum: A cohort study using the Medicare Medicaid Linked Enrollees Analytic Data Source

Teal W. Benevides et al.

Summary: Research on autistic adults in the U.S. reveals racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare access and spending, with non-white beneficiaries having lower rates of dual-eligibility and lower expenditures. Further evaluation is needed to promote clear pathways to public health insurance for individuals with lifelong developmental disabilities.

The use of biomarkers associated with leaky gut as a diagnostic tool for early intervention in autism spectrum disorder: a systematic review

Laila Al-Ayadhi et al.

Summary: This review highlights the altered gut microbiota frequently observed in autistic patients and the mechanisms through which these alterations may trigger leaky gut. It also discusses different bacterial metabolite levels in the blood and urine of autistic children, as well as the importance of specific proteins such as calprotectin, zonulin, and lysozyme in early detection of leaky gut.

The anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects of probiotic on induced neurotoxicity in juvenile hamsters

Abir Ben Bacha et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that probiotics can reduce apoptosis and neuroinflammation induced by propionic acid (PPA) by modulating gut function. In a hamster model, probiotics significantly decreased levels of apoptotic markers and inflammation markers, providing protection against brain damage.
