Biochemical and Expression Analyses Revealed the Involvement of Proanthocyanidins and/or Their Derivatives in Fiber Pigmentation of Gossypium stocksii

Yujie Sun et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the accumulation of proanthocyanidins (PAs) and the expression of PA biosynthetic genes in the fiber of wild cotton species G. stocksii, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms of its fiber coloration. The results suggest that PAs play a crucial role in the fiber coloration of G. stocksii, and the transcription factor TT8 may have a regulatory role in controlling the PA branch genes. Additionally, the anthocyanidin reductase ANR is highly expressed and upregulated during fiber elongation, indicating its major role in PA synthesis in G. stocksii fiber.

Molecular components associated with the regulation of flavonoid biosynthesis

Jogindra Naik et al.

Summary: Flavonoids are structurally diverse compounds that play important roles in plants and have health benefits for humans. Various factors such as light, temperature, nutrients, and hormones modulate their biosynthesis. Transcriptional regulators, especially MYB and bHLH family transcription factors, directly regulate the genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis. Recent studies have also found that stress and hormone signaling pathways regulate some of these factors.

New insight into the pigment composition and molecular mechanism of flower coloration in tulip (Tulipa gesneriana L.) cultivars with various petal colors

Yunshu Wang et al.

Summary: This study conducted integrative analyses of pigment components and transcriptome profiles on different tulip cultivars to understand the molecular basis of petal coloration. The results identified major anthocyanins and carotenoids and linked the pigment accumulation to the expression of genes involved in the biosynthesis pathways. The study also revealed the interaction between different regulator factors in tulip MYB-bHLH-WD40 (MBW) complexes and provided a basis for the discovery of color regulatory factors. The findings shed light on anthocyanin and carotenoid synthesis pathways and have potential applications in flower breeding or pigments engineering in tulips.
