Extraction of material properties through multi-fidelity deep learning from molecular dynamics simulation

Mahmudul Islam et al.

Summary: Using multi-fidelity physics informed neural networks (MPINN) to simulate long physical processes via molecular dynamics proves to be a cost-effective and accurate approach. By determining the optimal percentage of high-fidelity training data required, high system properties accuracy can be achieved while saving computational costs up to 68%. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of MPINN in predicting nanofluid viscosity accurately with significantly fewer MD simulations, opening doors to investigate more complex engineering problems requiring long-range MD simulations.

Data-driven physics-informed constitutive metamodeling of complex fluids: A multifidelity neural network (MFNN) framework

Mohammadamin Mahmoudabadbozchelou et al.

Summary: In this work, a multifidelity neural network (MFNN) algorithm is introduced for data-driven constitutive metamodeling of complex fluids, which outperforms classical deep neural networks (DNNs) in predicting rheological behavior accurately. By incorporating physical intuition into the neural network and leveraging a large dataset of synthetic low-fidelity data, the MFNN algorithms are able to accurately predict the effects of temperature, salt concentration, and aging on complex fluids.

Transport of Non-Spherical Particles in Square Microchannel Flows: A Review

Tohme Tohme et al.

Summary: Understanding the behavior of particles in microchannels is crucial for designing efficient microfluidic devices. Most research has focused on the inertial migration of spherical particles, but behavior of non-spherical particles in microflows remains a challenge. Particle translation and rotation are coupled, with existing studies often decoupling rotational and lateral migration behaviors.

Artificial neural network architecture for rheological property prediction of a novel hybrid nanolubricant for automotive spark-ignition engine

Bhavin K. Bharath et al.

Summary: The experimental evaluation of ZnO-TiO2/5W30 hybrid nanolubricant showed lower viscosity than the base engine oil at lower temperatures, which can help reduce cold-start phase issues in automotive engines. The artificial neural network model designed to predict the viscosities of nanolubricant samples at different concentrations and temperatures demonstrated high accuracy in predicting the rheological behavior of the hybrid nanolubricant.

Dynamics of droplet migration in oscillatory and pulsating microchannel flows and prediction and uncertainty quantification of its lateral equilibrium position using multifidelity Gaussian processes

Ali Lafzi et al.

Summary: The dynamics of a droplet in oscillatory and pulsating flows of a Newtonian fluid in a microchannel have been studied numerically, exploring the effects of oscillation frequency, surface tension, and channel flow rate. The simulation results are sensitive to grid resolution due to the unsteady behavior of the base flow, and a set of fine grids have been used to capture the physics of the problem accurately. To reduce computational costs, a multifidelity Gaussian processes method with two levels of fidelity has been used to predict results and uncertainties based on correlations with coarse-grid cases.

Data enriched lubrication force modeling for a mechanistic fiber simulation of short fiber-reinforced thermoplastics

Susanne K. Kugler et al.

Summary: The research focuses on a mechanistic fiber orientation model for short fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, using a computational fluid dynamics particle simulation to estimate lubrication forces between fibers. A calibrated lubrication model is developed based on the simulation data, improving fiber orientation prediction compared to models without lubrication forces. The study compared the enhanced mechanistic fiber model to experimental data, showing significant improvement in accuracy.
