Phase-field-based lattice Boltzmann model for ternary fluid flows considering the wettability effect

Yajin Zhang et al.

Summary: A phase-field-based lattice Boltzmann model is proposed for ternary fluid flows, with verification of computational accuracy and capability through benchmark cases related to stationary droplets, liquid lens spreading, and phase separation of a ternary fluid mixture. Furthermore, a wetting boundary scheme applicable to ternary fluid flows is developed, showing good performance in eliminating undesired numerical artifacts.

Study of unsteady separated fluid flows using a multi-block lattice Boltzmann method

Eslam Ezzatneshan

Summary: This study used numerical simulations and the lattice Boltzmann method to investigate the dynamics of a dipole colliding with a wall and the wake structure past a circular cylinder. The results showed the formation of small-scale vortices due to boundary layer detachment and shedding of shear-layer vortices at higher frequencies. The efficiency of the multi-block LBM for predicting statistical features of flow problems was found to be comparable to solvers based on Navier-Stokes equations.

A simplified discrete unified gas-kinetic scheme for compressible flow

Mingliang Zhong et al.

Summary: This paper extends the simplified discrete unified gas-kinetic scheme from incompressible flow to compressible flow at high Mach number. By introducing the governing equation of the internal energy distribution function with the Prandtl number effect, the method is able to simulate compressible flow. Numerical test cases from incompressible to compressible flows validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

An improved multiphase lattice Boltzmann flux solver for the simulation of incompressible flow with large density ratio and complex interface

Liuming Yang et al.

Summary: The improved multiphase lattice Boltzmann flux solver (IMLBFS) is proposed based on the Chapman-Enskog analysis of the MLBM to overcome limitations in the original MLBFS. By considering the surface tension force when reconstructing numerical interface fluxes, the IMLBFS is found to be more stable and efficient compared to the MLBFS.Simulations on various flow conditions demonstrate that the IMLBFS predicts smaller spurious velocities and outperforms the original MLBFS.

Numerical investigation of electro-thermo-convection with a solid-liquid interface via the lattice Boltzmann method

Kun He et al.

Summary: This paper numerically investigates the electro-thermo-convection of a dielectric liquid between two parallel planar electrodes using the lattice Boltzmann method, focusing on the impact of key parameters. The average heat transfer rate obtained in the presence of solid substance is found to be smaller compared to the case without solid, with variations in thermal conductivity ratio, wall thickness, and permittivity ratio affecting the fluid flow stability and Nusselt number. Additionally, the study examines bifurcation types of linear instability and hysteresis loops in electro-thermo-convection with and without a solid wall.

A Pseudopotential Lattice Boltzmann Method for Simulation of Two-Phase Flow Transport in Porous Medium at High-Density and High-Viscosity Ratios

Eslam Ezzatneshan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the capability of a multiphase lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) based on the pseudopotential Shan-Chen (S-C) model for simulating two-phase flows through porous media at high-density and high-viscosity ratios. By comparing different numerical schemes, it is demonstrated that the S-C LBM with the MRT-EDM scheme, CS EoS, and modified forcing scheme is efficient and accurate for estimating the characteristics of two-phase flow through porous media.

Study of Fingering Dynamics of Two Immiscible Fluids in a Homogeneous Porous Medium with Considering Wettability Effects Using a Pore-Scale Multicomponent Lattice Boltzmann Model

Eslam Ezzatneshan et al.

Summary: In this study, a pore-scale multicomponent lattice Boltzmann method is used to investigate the displacement of immiscible-phase fluid in a homogeneous porous medium. The study quantifies the viscous fingering and stable displacement regimes of the invading fluid, and explores the effects of different flow conditions on the flow characteristics. The results show that the computational technique is efficient for predicting flow patterns and interfacial dynamics in porous media.
