Artem Blishchik et al.

Summary: This study conducted extensive numerical simulations on various aspects of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), achieving good agreement with available analytical solutions and other numerical results. The presented numerical benchmarks are expected to be valuable for developers of numerical codes used to simulate complex MHD phenomena.

Magnetohydrodynamic velocity and pressure drop in manifolds of a WCLL TBM

C. Mistrangelo et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of considering magnetohydrodynamic pressure drops in the application of liquid metal alloys in breeding blankets to avoid impacting the feasibility of blanket concepts. The design of WCLL blankets needs to address the velocity and pressure distributions in liquid metal MHD flows.

One-stage simplified lattice Boltzmann method for two- and three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic flows

Alessandro De Rosis et al.

Summary: In this paper, a new simplified lattice Boltzmann method (SLBM) for magnetohydrodynamic flows is proposed, which demonstrates better accuracy and lower virtual memory usage compared to the classical method. The two-stage algorithm of SLBM is replaced by a one-stage procedure, ensuring consistency and ease of implementation. The proposed approach is believed to be an excellent candidate for numerical simulations of two- and three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic flows.

Observation of a novel flow regime caused by finite electric wall conductance in an initially turbulent magnetohydrodynamic duct flow

Artem Blishchik et al.

Summary: The study presents results of numerical simulations on the fully developed turbulent flow of liquid metal in a long duct, under the influence of a transverse magnetic field and varying wall conductances. Changes in wall conductance lead to the appearance of novel flow regimes with locally turbulent or laminar flow regions coexisting, and nonmonotonic behavior of wall-friction coefficients. In contrast to the continuous suppression of turbulence and complete relaminarization under certain conditions, there is also observed partial and complete turbulence regeneration from a magnetohydrodynamic-suppressed laminar state.

Physical Background, Computations and Practical Issues of the Magnetohydrodynamic Pressure Drop in a Fusion Liquid Metal Blanket

Sergey Smolentsev

Summary: Studying the impact of MHD pressure drop in liquid metal blankets of fusion reactors and finding ways to mitigate high MHD pressure losses is crucial for designing new feasible blankets and improving existing concepts. Understanding the physics of LM MHD flows and identifying sources of high MHD pressure drop are key aspects in addressing this challenge.
