Spatial deterministic wave forecasting for nonlinear sea-states

M. Galvagno et al.

Summary: A simple algebraic form of nonlinear wavenumber correction for unidirectional surface gravity waves in deep water is derived based on temporal measurements of the water surface and the spatial Zakharov equation. This formulation allows for an improvement over linear deterministic wave forecasting without any additional computational cost and shows marked improvements over the linear theory when used to forecast both synthetically generated and experimentally measured seas.

Finite-amplitude steady-state resonant waves in a circular basin

Xiaoyan Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the steady-state second-harmonic resonance between fundamental and second-harmonic modes for waves in a circular basin, resulting in (1,2)-waves. Using a homotopy analysis method approach, approximate homotopy-series solutions are obtained for both (1,2)-TW and (1,2)-SW. The nonlinear solutions branch out from trivial solutions as nonlinearity increases.

Steady-state harmonic resonance of periodic interfacial waves with free-surface boundary conditions based on the homotopy analysis method

Jiyang Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals the existence of two independent 'external' and 'internal' modes in a two-layer fluid, where exact harmonic resonance occurs when they share the same phase speed. The singularity or small divisor caused by resonant components is successfully eliminated using the homotopy analysis method, leading to convergent series solutions for steady-state interfacial wave groups with harmonic resonance. As the water depth varies, the energy carried by surface waves mirrors that carried by interface waves, showing a transfer of energy from shorter resonant components to longer primary ones as the upper layer depth increases.

On two approaches to the third-order solution of surface gravity waves

Zhe Gao et al.

Summary: The study presents a third-order approximate solution for surface gravity waves in finite water depth through perturbation and Hamiltonian approaches. Comparison between the two methods shows that the Hamiltonian solution is more reasonable and accurate in describing the steady-state wave field.
