Cosmic Birefringence Triggered by Dark Matter Domination

Shota Nakagawa et al.

Summary: The study presents a new model predicting cosmic birefringence phenomenon for an axionlike particle coupled to dark matter density after recombination. A simple model is proposed to achieve this prediction, and the implications for QCD axion are also investigated, showing that the domain wall problem can be solved by effective mass.

Improved Constraints on Primordial Gravitational Waves using Planck, WMAP, and BICEP/Keck Observations through the 2018 Observing Season

P. A. R. Ade et al.

Summary: This study presents the analysis of data from the BICEP2, Keck Array, and BICEP3 CMB polarization experiments up to 2018, with additional observations added. By comparing with WMAP and Planck maps, the study provides strong constraints on primordial gravitational waves.

Constraints on global symmetry breaking in quantum gravity from cosmic birefringence measurements

James Alvey et al.

Summary: All global symmetries are expected to be broken by quantum gravitational effects. The detection of cosmic birefringence in the Cosmic Microwave Background may indicate a well-preserved global symmetry. The presence of global symmetries has implications for theories of quantum gravity and particle physics scenarios.

Kilobyte Cosmic Birefringence from ALP domain walls

Fuminobu Takahashi et al.

Summary: The formation of ALP domain walls without strings in the early Universe can lead to isotropic and anisotropic birefringence of cosmic microwave background polarization. This birefringence can provide information about the number and structure of domain walls at the time of recombination.

Ultra-light dark matter

Elisa G. M. Ferreira

Summary: Ultra-light dark matter, composed of bosons with masses ranging from 10(-24)eV < m < eV, has garnered attention for its ability to form a Bose-Einstein condensate or superfluid on galactic scales. Various models have been proposed, including fuzzy dark matter, self-interacting fuzzy dark matter, and DM superfluid, with the potential to reconcile the cold DM picture with small-scale behavior. These models present a rich phenomenology and are being tested using astrophysical and cosmological observations.

The Origin of Parity Violation in Polarized Dust Emission and Implications for Cosmic Birefringence

S. E. Clark et al.

Summary: Recent measurements of Galactic polarized dust emission have found a nonzero TB signal, a correlation between total intensity and B-mode polarization component. The results suggest that magnetically misaligned filamentary dust structures introduce nonzero TB and EB correlations in dust polarization. Searches for parity violation in the cosmic microwave background must account for the nonzero Galactic EB and TB signals.

Superradiance in string theory

Viraf M. Mehta et al.

Summary: In this study, an extensive analysis of axion masses and interactions in compactifications of type IIB string theory was performed, revealing that black hole superradiance excludes certain regions of Calabi-Yau moduli space. The study shows that the properties of astrophysical black holes can probe theories with axion masses falling in a superradiant band, unless disrupted by large axion self-interactions. The mass spectrum of axions is largely determined by the Kahler parameters, with constraints on superradiance conditions varying depending on the value of h(1,1).

Cosmic birefringence and electroweak axion dark energy

Gongjun Choi et al.

Summary: Using the reported non-zero rotation angle of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) linear polarization as a hint, a new model for quintessence dark energy is proposed and speculated based on experimental results, aiming to predict the equation of state of dark energy and distinguish it from the cosmological constant for future testing.

Measurements of the E-mode polarization and temperature-E-mode correlation of the CMB from SPT-3G 2018 data

D. Dutcher et al.

Summary: In this study, measurements of the E-mode polarization power spectrum and temperature-E-mode cross-power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background were presented using data collected by SPT-3G. The results improve upon previous findings, providing constraints on cosmological parameters and showing a good fit with the.aCDM cosmological model. Combining the SPT-3G and Planck data sets led to tighter constraints on the aCDM model without significant shifts in central values.

Probing axionlike particles via cosmic microwave background polarization

Tomohiro Fujita et al.

Summary: The study suggests that ALPs can rotate the linear polarization of photons and convert the cosmic microwave background E mode to the B mode through the ALP-photon coupling. By deriving the relationship between ALP dynamics and rotation angle, the current and future sensitivities of CMB observations to the ALP-photon coupling were calculated. Neglected fluctuations of the ALP field at the observer have been found to induce significant isotropic rotation of the CMB polarization.

Detection of isotropic cosmic birefringence and its implications for axionlike particles including dark energy

Tomohiro Fujita et al.

Summary: By analyzing observational data, the study investigated the possibility of ALPs being responsible for isotropic birefringence and explored their role in dark energy and early dark energy scenarios to alleviate the Hubble tension problem. By limiting parameters, the study narrowed down the range of ALP-photon coupling.
