Three molecules found in rosemary or nutmeg essential oils repel ticks (Dermacentor variabilis) more effectively than DEET in a no-human assay

Colin Wong et al.

Summary: The study compared different natural products as potential repellents and found that many of them can elicit a strong response from ticks. Among them, myristicin and safrole found in nutmeg oil, and terpinolene found in nutmeg oil and as a minor constituent of rosemary oil, performed significantly better than DEET in the assay.

Electrophysiological and behavioral responses of red imported fire ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) to an essential balm and its components

Chao Wen et al.

Summary: Essential balm from China effectively repelled red imported fire ants, with each of its five components showing repellency in the field. Among the components, eugenol had the longest-lasting repellent effect.

Wearable Sensors for Assessing the Role of Olfactory Training on the Autonomic Response to Olfactory Stimulation

Alessandro Tonacci et al.

Summary: Wearable sensors are commonly used to assess physiological signals without obtrusiveness. Olfactory training showed different autonomic responses, with increased familiarity leading to higher relaxation tendencies. This may have potential applications in personalized treatments for neuropsychiatric and eating disorders.
