Facial palsy in children: long-term outcome assessed face-to-face and follow-up revealing high recurrence rate

Mervi Kanerva et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term outcomes of pediatric facial palsy through patient questionnaires and face-to-face assessments using various grading systems. The results showed that while 68% of patients had fully recovered, 35% of them reported subjective sequelae. Additionally, a high palsy recurrence rate was observed in the 10-year follow-up, with only one case having a known cause. The Sunnybrook grading system was found to be the most applicable among the three systems evaluated.
