Classifying Idiopathic Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder, Controls, and Mild Parkinson's Disease Using Gait Parameters

Valerie Cochen De Cock et al.

Summary: This study successfully developed a multiclass model using statistical learning to distinguish patients with idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), healthy control subjects (HCs), and patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The results demonstrated that gait parameters and a pretrained statistical model can robustly differentiate participants with iRBD from HCs and patients with PD.

Detection of Motor Dysfunction With Wearable Sensors in Patients With Idiopathic Rapid Eye Movement Disorder

Lin Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that while there were no significant differences in general gait measurements between iRBD patients and healthy controls, patients showed decreases in trunk motion range and peak angular velocity during all three walking conditions. Additionally, reduced trunk motion and increased step time before turning observed in iRBD patients may be early manifestations of Parkinson's disease.
