Selection Criteria Optimal for Recovery of Inner Ear Tissues From Deceased Organ Donors

Ksenia A. Aaron et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the optimal conditions for recovering viable inner ear tissues from deceased organ donors. It found that inner ear tissues from donors after cardiac death displayed denser populations of hair cells and supporting cells compared to those from donors after brain death. Donors with intact and viable sensory epithelium had significantly shorter lag time to resuscitation and time between pronouncements of death to organ recovery. Selecting tissue donors within defined parameters can optimize the quality of recovered inner ear tissues.
