Intracrystalline migration of polymetallic Au-rich melts in multistage hydrothermal systems: example from the Xiaoqinling lode gold district, central China

Wei Jian et al.

Summary: Low-temperature polymetallic melts can scavenge gold from aqueous fluids in hydrothermal systems, contributing to the formation of hydrothermal lode gold deposits. The study shows that polymetallic melt inclusions can migrate to the crystal surface and come into contact with aqueous fluids, facilitating the scavenging of gold.

Auriferous pyrite formed by episodic fluid inputs in the Akeshi and Kasuga high-sulfidation deposits, Southern Kyushu, Japan

Mizuki Ishida et al.

Summary: The geochemistry of pyrite has been useful in tracking changes in hydrothermal fluids in ore-forming environments. The study on pyrite in two high-sulfidation epithermal Au deposits in Japan reveals the presence of gold and copper in small anhedral grains of pyrite, as well as dissolution-reprecipitation textures and concentric Cu-rich overgrowths in larger pyrite grains. These findings suggest episodic metal-rich fluid inputs and gold adsorption onto growing pyrite surfaces played a key role in the mineralization of these deposits.

Summary: This study investigates the formation of gold nanoparticles in the Beiya gold deposit in China, revealing their distribution in nanopores in low-Si magnetite. Gold nanoparticles crystallize and grow from Au-supersaturated fluids under disequilibrium conditions, utilizing lattice planes of magnetite for heteroepitaxial growth.

Au-Ag-Te-RICH MELT INCLUSIONS IN HYDROTHERMAL GOLD-QUARTZ VEINS, XIAOQINLING LODE GOLD DISTRICT, CENTRAL CHINA

Wei Jian et al.

Summary: The study presents a new understanding of the formation mechanism of Au-Ag-Te-rich melt in ore deposits, indicating that it can precipitate directly from hydrothermal fluids and subsequently be trapped within minerals. This discovery helps explain a new mechanism for enrichment of low-abundance ore components.

Colloidal transport and flocculation are the cause of the hyperenrichment of gold in nature

Duncan F. McLeish et al.

Summary: This study provides direct evidence for the transport of gold as colloidal particles and their flocculation in nanoscale calcite veinlets, explaining the formation of ultrahigh-grade gold veins. The proposed model suggests that gold transport in high-grade deposits is largely mechanical and due to exceptionally high degrees of supersaturation.

A new kind of invisible gold in pyrite hosted in deformation-related dislocations

Denis Fougerouse et al.

Summary: Mining of invisible gold associated with sulfides in gold ores is a significant method of gold production worldwide. Gold hosted in sulfide minerals may exist as a sulfide-gold alloy or as discrete metallic nanoparticles. Analysis on a pyrite crystal from an orogenic gold deposit shows that dislocations hosted in a deformation low-angle boundary can be enriched in various trace elements, indicating a new style of invisible gold.
