Study of comprehensive shielding behaviors of chambersite deposit for neutron and gamma ray

Mengge Dong et al.

Summary: The comprehensive shielding behaviors of chambersite deposit in China for neutron and gamma ray were systematically analyzed for the first time. The results showed that the chambersite deposit has excellent shielding performance for high energy and low energy neutrons, and its gamma ray shielding ability is between steel-magnetite concrete and ilmenite concrete. The prepared sample of chambersite deposit has better shielding performance for both thermal neutron and gamma ray compared to other materials.

Patient X-ray exposure and ALARA in the neonatal intensive care unit: Global patterns

Amber J. Gislason-Lee

Summary: The literature review suggests varying responses to radiation exposure concerns in neonatal intensive care units globally, which may pose a public health risk to this particular neonatal population. It is recommended to establish updated imaging protocols and dose limits specifically for the NICU environment, along with standardized dose monitoring, to minimize the potential harm of neonatal X-ray exposure and achieve public health goals.

The potential use of boron containing resources for protection against nuclear radiation

Mengge Dong et al.

Summary: The study examines the shielding performance of boron-containing natural materials in Liaoning Province, China, against neutron and gamma radiation, finding that boron content and material density have a positive correlation with shielding ability. Composites prepared with boron resources and epoxy resin show excellent neutron shielding but poor performance against gamma rays.

Development of new heavy concretes containing chrome-ore for nuclear radiation shielding applications

B. Aygun et al.

Summary: The study investigated four newly developed heavy concretes based on chromium ore for neutron and gamma shielding effectiveness. It was found that the concretes have high strength and temperature resistance, with GEANT4 simulation used to determine their shielding properties. Results showed that the new concretes are capable of absorbing high rates of gamma and neutron radiation, making them suitable alternative shielding materials for nuclear energy applications.

A comprehensive study on the optical, mechanical, and radiation shielding properties of the TeO2-Li2O-GeO2 glass system

Norah A. M. Alsaif et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive study on the mechanical, optical, and shielding features of binary lithium-tellurite glasses doped with germanium and lithium oxide. The results suggest that these glasses are suitable for optical devices, and substituting TeO2 with GeO2 + Li2O can enhance the shielding properties of the glass.
