A new method to synthesize L-Cystein ethyl ester hydrochloride (LEEH) caped ZnTe quantum dot (Q.D.) using a chemical bottom-up approach is reported in this paper. The transmission characteristics of the synthesized Q.D.s coated on an optical fibre are studied by illuminating it with a laser diode.
We report a new method to synthesize L-Cystein ethyl ester hydrochloride (LEEH) caped ZnTe quantum dot (Q.D.) using a simple chemical bottom-up approach. Q.D.s are caped with LEEH to increase their stability. The U.V. absorption study of this sample confirms the formation of small size (2.29 nm) and quantum dots with a bandgap of 2.49ev. The synthesized Q.D.s are coated on a clad removed optical fibre to study its transmission characteristics for different coating lengths. For this, the coated optical fiber is illuminated by a laser diode (650 nm). The optical power meter at the other end of the fiber is used to measure the transmission intensity. It is found that the transmission intensity decreases beyond a critical length with respect to coating length, which is verified by both experiment and Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) simulations. Results found in this investigation are significant in designing low-cost sensing devices based on the quantum dot coated fiber.
