Active modulation of electromagnetically induced transparency analog in graphene-based microwave metamaterial

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the active modulation of EIT analog by integrating graphene into a microwave metamaterial for the first time, showing that the EIT peak can be dynamically controlled under a relatively low bias voltage applied on graphene. The continuous tuning of the EIT resonance strength is achieved by variably dampening the dark resonator using graphene.

Gain-assisted critical coupling for enhanced optical absorption in graphene

Tingting Liu et al.

Summary: This work presents a gain-assisted method to achieve critical coupling and demonstrate maximum absorption in undoped monolayer graphene in the near-infrared. By introducing a gain medium, the dissipative rate is adjusted to match the radiation rate for achieving critical coupling, without changing the original structural geometry. The appropriate tuning of the gain coefficient also enables critical coupling absorption within a wide wavelength regime for different coupling configurations.

Reversible fast to slow-light transition originating in the optical analog of EIA-EIT transformation in optical resonators

Ahmern Aweed

Summary: The study describes a reversible CRIA-CRIT transition using coupled optical ring resonators, where dispersion reverses during the transition. Besides the EIA-EIT crossover analogy, additional analogs of coherent atomic phenomena arising in the CRIA-CRIT transition were identified. Specific conditions leading to strongly enhanced dispersion were discussed.

Strong slow-light effect for a hexagonal graphene coupled metasurface in terahertz

Wei Cui et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that dual plasma induced transparency can be effectively tuned by Fermi levels, carrier mobilities, and polarization angles. The group index achieved on a graphene coupled metasurface can be as high as approximately 2553, paving the way for the design of slow-light devices.

Electromagnetically induced transparency from first-order dynamical systems

Marco Clementi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the induced absorption or gain phenomenon of a weak probe beam by a strongly driven single-mode oscillator coupled to a first-order dynamical system, resulting in fast or slow light. The analytical solutions to the dynamic equations of motion show that the EIT-like response is a general phenomenon, potentially occurring in any nonlinear oscillator coupled to first-order dynamical systems. The practical impact of this theoretical framework is illustrated through quantitative assessments of observable consequences in semiconductor microcavities, highlighting the generality of this physical mechanism and its potential for integrated and cost-effective photonic devices.

Quantum squeezing of slow-light solitons

Jinzhong Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigates quantum squeezing of slow-light solitons generated in a Lambda-shaped three-level atomic system under the condition of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). By deriving a quantum nonlinear Schrodinger equation and conducting detailed calculations on quantum fluctuations, it demonstrates significant quantum squeezing of slow-light solitons within a short propagation distance due to giant Kerr nonlinearity from the EIT effect. These results contribute to understanding the quantum properties of slow-light solitons and realizing light squeezing through EIT in cold atomic gases experimentally.
