Broadband spatial polarization processing of light via a photopatterned dichroic medium

Xing-Yu Fan et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a method of forming high-resolution patterns in a dichroic medium by introducing black dye into liquid crystals and imprinting them with photopatterning. Continuous cylindrical and binary vector beams can be generated using the electro-optical tunability of liquid crystals. This method provides a platform for arbitrary spatial polarization processing and may have important applications in polarization imaging, structured light generation, and materials characterization.

A cholesteric liquid crystal smart window with a low operating voltage

Seung-Won Oh et al.

Summary: A dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal smart window with a haze-free opaque state is demonstrated. The window utilizes a random stripe pattern called the fingerprint (FP) texture as its initial state, which has a slightly higher transmittance than the twisted state but much lower than the homogeneously aligned state. Additionally, the proposed LC cell shows the lowest operating voltage among guest-host liquid crystal cells due to vertical anchoring at the surfaces.

Electro-optical Performance Investigation of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Containing Azo Dye: Light Shutter Device Application

Gulsum Kocakulah et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of chiral dopant concentration on electro-optical and dielectric properties of a cholesteric liquid crystal composite, and developed a dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal light shutter. Significant changes in electro-optical and dielectric parameters were found from the experimental data, indicating potential applications of the developed DDCLC light shutter in optoelectronic devices.
