Bariatric Surgery Survey 2018: Similarities and Disparities Among the 5 IFSO Chapters

Luigi Angrisani et al.

Summary: The 2018 IFSO Survey focused on the similarities and disparities in the number and types of surgical and endoluminal interventions among the IFSO chapters over the past decade. The total number of surgical and endoluminal procedures performed globally in 2018 was 696,191, with sleeve gastrectomy being the most commonly performed bariatric procedure. The survey also showed a slight increase in the total number of reported bariatric interventions compared to the previous survey, with the one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) rising in popularity worldwide.

Current status of laparoscopic bariatric/metabolic surgery in Japan: The sixth nationwide survey by the Japan Consortium of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery

Masayuki Ohta et al.

Summary: The nationwide survey in Japan showcased the safe and effective performance of laparoscopic bariatric/metabolic surgery for 20 years. LSG was the most popular procedure, while LSG-DJB and LRYGB also demonstrated favorable outcomes. However, there were higher rates of complications and reoperations seen in some cases of LRYGB.
