Early Hypoexcitability in a Subgroup of Spinal Motoneurons in Superoxide Dismutase 1 Transgenic Mice, a Model of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Anton Filipchuk et al.

Summary: The study revealed that low expressor SOD1 mutants (G85R and G93A-low) exhibit dendritic overbranching and early hypoexcitability in motoneurons, while sustained firing motoneurons in the high-expressor SOD1G93A line show hyperexcitability, indicating a delay in compensatory mechanisms. The hypoexcitability observed in delayed-onset firing motoneurons may serve as an early pathological sign of the disease.
