Differentiation of Individuals Previously Infected with and Vaccinated for SARS-CoV-2 in an Inner-City Emergency Department

Evan J. Beck et al.

Summary: Emergency departments can be used as surveillance sites for infectious diseases. This study aimed to determine the burden of SARS-CoV-2 infection and monitor the prevalence of COVID-19 vaccination among patients attending an urban ED in Baltimore City. A testing algorithm was developed to differentiate between previously infected, vaccinated, and unexposed individuals using antibody assays. The study found significant differences in disease burden and vaccination coverage based on sex, race, and ethnicity.

COVID-19 Serology at Population Scale: SARS-CoV-2-Specific Antibody Responses in Saliva

Pranay R. Randad et al.

Summary: This study found that salivary antibodies could be a noninvasive alternative for monitoring SARS-CoV-2 infection and seropositivity at a population scale. The results showed a high correlation between salivary and serum antibodies, and high sensitivity and specificity of salivary antibodies for detecting COVID-19 infection.

Clinical use of thrombin generation assays

Nikolaus B. Binder et al.

Summary: TGA is a global assay that allows for the dynamic and continuous recording of both thrombin generation and inactivation effects. It is widely used in clinical medicine for the diagnosis, prognosis, prophylaxis, and treatment of inherited and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders.

Role of IgG against N-protein of SARS-CoV2 in COVID19 clinical outcomes

Mayank Batra et al.

Summary: This study found that titers of IgG targeting N-protein of SARS-CoV2 at admission are related to the clinical course of the disease. Higher CCI and IL6 levels were independently associated with in-hospital mortality while maintaining a high S/Co ratio (>1.5) also led to MICU admission and longer hospital stays.

3D Printing of Monolithic Capillarity-Driven Microfluidic Devices for Diagnostics

Clement Achille et al.

Summary: Rapid diagnostic testing at the site of the patient is essential when a fully equipped laboratory is not accessible. 3D-printed microfluidic devices offer a scalable route to low-cost diagnostics and eliminate the need for assembly of discrete components. The seamless transition between digital data and physical objects allows for rapid design iterations and opens up perspectives on distributed manufacturing.
