A comparison of the analytical hierarchy process and the fuzzy logic approach for flood susceptibility mapping in a semi-arid ungauged basin (Biskra basin: Algeria)

Ali Bouamrane et al.

Summary: This study proposes a multi-criteria decision-making tool to identify flood susceptibility areas on a regional scale. By integrating multi-criteria analysis, GIS, and RS techniques, flood susceptibility maps were prepared for the Biskra basin in Algeria. The results showed that high and very high flood susceptibility areas were mainly located in the northern regions and urban areas near drainage networks.

Flood susceptibility mapping and assessment using a novel deep learning model combining multilayer perceptron and autoencoder neural networks

Mohammad Ahmadlou et al.

Summary: Floods are one of the most destructive natural disasters globally, and researchers have been using data-driven techniques combined with remote sensing and geographic information systems for flood susceptibility mapping. A novel hybrid autoencoder-MLP model was proposed, which outperformed the traditional MLP model according to the AUROC criterion.

Indices based assessment of built-up density and urban expansion of fast growing Surat city using multi-temporal Landsat data sets

Shahfahad et al.

Summary: The study shows that the population and built-up area of Surat are increasing rapidly, with the built-up area growing at a faster rate than the population. There is a very strong positive correlation between population density and built-up area, and a moderate positive correlation between population distribution and built-up area. Therefore, while the growth rates of population and urban area may not be identical, there are strong relationships between their distribution and density.

Flood susceptibility mapping using GIS and multi-criteria decision analysis: A case of Dodoma region, central Tanzania

Michael M. Msabi et al.

Summary: Flood susceptibility mapping can facilitate flood prevention and mitigation efforts, with this study using the analytical hierarchy process methodology to create a map considering seven influencing factors. Results showed that 40.27% of the Dodoma Region is highly susceptible to flooding. Validation of the model indicated a significant accuracy with an AUC of 87.24%.
