Recent advances in UV photodetectors based on 2D materials: a review

Ashok Kumar et al.

Summary: Since the discovery of graphene, there has been great interest in two-dimensional materials due to their extraordinary properties. Wide-bandgap 2D materials, such as gallium sulphide, hexagonal boron nitride, and bismuth oxychlorides, have shown extraordinary performance in UV photodetection.

Carbon Nanosheets Synthesis in a Gliding Arc Reactor: On the Reaction Routes and Process Parameters

Xintong Ma et al.

Summary: Non-thermal plasma, particularly gliding arc discharge, shows promise for high purity nanomaterial synthesis. A comparison study in a 2D gliding arc reactor revealed that carbon nanosheets synthesized from graphite exfoliation were thinner and more uniform than those from toluene dissociation, with gas flow rate significantly impacting the morphology in the latter method.

Stabilization Methods in the Submerged Arc Discharge Synthesis of Carbon Nanostructures

Lorenzo Hernandez-Tabares et al.

Summary: Many papers using the submerged arc discharge (SAD) method for nanoparticle synthesis have similar operating parameters but varying electrode erosion rates, yields, purities, and contaminants. Insufficient attention is paid to ensuring arc power stability, a key factor for product homogeneity and quality. This paper analyzes different control strategies, evaluates their pros and cons, and proposes the most suitable technique for SAD.

Recent applications of the liquid phase plasma process

Sang-Chai Kim et al.

Summary: This paper describes the principle and application of plasma, particularly focusing on plasma generated in liquids. It discusses the use of liquid phase plasma for water treatment, metal nanoparticle synthesis, visible light-responsive photocatalyst synthesis, energy material synthesis, and hydrogen gas production. The research results demonstrate that various factors, such as plasma discharge conditions, dissolved oxygen concentration, and pH value, can impact the effectiveness of the liquid phase plasma reaction.

Boron nitride nanotube precursor formation during high-temperature synthesis: kinetic and thermodynamic modelling

Yuri Barsukov et al.

Summary: Integrated modelling was used to study the chemical pathways of boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) precursor formation, showing that BN compounds are formed through the interaction of molecular nitrogen with small boron clusters. Kinetic modelling revealed the significant role of B4N4 and B5N4 species in the N-2 molecule fixation process. Gas pressure and cooling rate were shown to impact the accumulation of these species, with higher pressures leading to increased densities of B4N4 and B5N4, explaining the observed effect of gas pressure on high-quality BNNT yield. The catalytic role of hydrogen in BNNT synthesis was also investigated.
