White Light Afterglow in Carbon Dots Achieved via Synergy between the Room-Temperature Phosphorescence and the Delayed Fluorescence

Jinyang Zhu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the realization of white-light room-temperature long-lived afterglow emission from CD powder, with a synergy between the phosphorescence of the carbon core and the delayed fluorescence associated with surface C(sic)N moieties. By matching the singlet state of the surface groups of CDs with the long-lived triplet state of the carbon core, an efficient energy transfer is achieved.

Short-term effects of polyethene and polypropylene microplastics on soil phosphorus and nitrogen availability

Haixiao Li et al.

Summary: This study found that microplastics have certain effects on soil nitrogen and phosphorus cycling. The presence of microplastics significantly decreased the content of available phosphate in the soil, while the addition of PP microplastics increased the content of available ammonium. Microplastics had limited effects on soil microorganisms.

Electronics and coordination engineering of atomic cobalt trapped by oxygen-driven defects for efficient cathode in solar cells

Hongyu Jing et al.

Summary: The rational design and metal coordination environment regulation of single-atom catalysts in specific catalytic reactions are still challenges. Oxygen-defective supports can trap metal species and provide an effective pathway for synthesizing SACs. Density functional theory calculations reveal the importance of intrinsic electronic distributions, electron donating ability, and energy level position in determining the coordination behavior and catalytic performance of SACs.

Identifying the convergent reaction path from predesigned assembled structures: Dissymmetrical dehalogenation of Br2Py on Ag(111)

Jinping Hu et al.

Summary: The study provides a comprehensive elucidation of surface Ullmann coupling of 2,7-dibromopyrene on Ag(111), revealing unique reaction paths, diverse assembled architectures, and a stepwise annealing process. It demonstrates that metal coordinated and halogen bonding motifs, as well as surface adatoms and dissociated Br atoms, play crucial roles in the coupling reactions. Additionally, it shows that weak intermolecular interactions in assembled nanostructures are immediately suppressed by strong covalent bonding during reactions.

Active sites engineering via tuning configuration between graphitic-N and thiophenic-S dopants in one-step synthesized graphene nanosheets for efficient water-cycled electrocatalysis

Xiaoran Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, N, S co-doped graphene nanosheets were synthesized effectively by pyrolysis of a mixture of 2,6-diaminopyridine as N source and ammonium persulfate as S source. By tuning the ratio of graphitic-N and thiophenic-S dopants in the nanosheets, the active sites were engineered to achieve optimized intermediates energy for three-reaction pathways, leading to enhanced electrocatalytic activity and selectivity for water-cycled reactions such as HER, OER, and ORR.
