Solar-Cycle Characteristics in Kodaikanal Sunspot Area: North-South Asymmetry, Phase Distribution and Gnevyshev Gap

Summary: Research indicates that solar activity exhibits asymmetry between the northern and southern hemispheres in different cycles, with variations in both the amplitude and dominance of sunspot activity. The use of wavelet technique revealed Rieger-type periodicities and common periodicities in the sunspot cycles. The findings suggest that data from the Kodaikanal Observatory can complement existing sunspot data from other observatories for the study of solar activity over long and short periods.
