The evolution of the barred galaxy population in the TNG50 simulation

Yetli Rosas-Guevara et al.

Summary: We used magnetic-hydrodynamical simulation to study the evolution of barred massive disc galaxies. We found that massive spiral galaxies already existed as early as z=4, and bar formation also occurred at that time. The bars of these galaxies grew longer and stronger as the host galaxies evolved. Barred galaxies have an older stellar population, lower gas fractions, and lower star formation rates compared to unbarred galaxies. They also tend to exist in haloes with larger concentrations and smaller spin parameters. The population of barred galaxies can be used as a potential tracer of the evolution of disc galaxies and their host haloes.

Supermassive black holes in cosmological simulations I: MBH - M☆ relation and black hole mass function

Melanie Habouzit et al.

Summary: Significant progress has been made in understanding galaxy formation and evolution through large-scale cosmological simulations over the past decade. However, the impact of sub-grid models on black hole mass properties varies among different simulations. The linearity and normalization of the M-BH - M-star relation differ between simulations, with SN feedback playing a significant role in these differences. Strong AGN feedback can suppress the time evolution of the relation normalization at the high-mass end.

Revisiting the tension between fast bars and the ΛCDM paradigm

F. Fragkoudi et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the rotation speed of bars in galaxies is closely related to the amount of dark matter in their inner regions. Recent cosmological simulations suggest that bars form fastest in galaxies with higher stellar-to-dark matter ratios and more baryon-dominated composition. This highlights a discrepancy between dynamically inferred ratios and those inferred from abundance matching.

The AGORA High-resolution Galaxy Simulations Comparison Project. III. Cosmological Zoom-in Simulation of a Milky Way-mass Halo

Santi Roca-Fabrega et al.

Summary: A suite of high-resolution cosmological zoom-in simulations to z = 4 of a 10(12) M (circle dot) halo at z = 0 were presented, using seven contemporary astrophysical simulation codes. The simulations included cosmological processes such as the expansion of the universe, intergalactic gas inflow, and the cosmic ultraviolet background radiation. The careful comparison of galaxy formation simulations by different code groups showed overall agreement in gas and stellar properties but differences in circumgalactic medium properties.
