Optimization of Extraction Conditions and Characterization of Volatile Organic Compounds of Eugenia klotzschiana O. Berg Fruit Pulp

Ana P. X. Mariano et al.

Summary: This study investigated the extraction and analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from Eugenia klotzschiana O. Berg fruit pulp, and identified the compounds responsible for its aroma. The most efficient fiber sorbent for headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) was found to be PDMS/DVB. A total of 38 compounds, including sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes, were identified in the aroma.

Nitric Oxide and Immune Responses in Cancer: Searching for New Therapeutic Strategies

Adeleh Sahebnasagh et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the immunomodulatory role of nitric oxide (NO) in cancer and recent advancements in the use of NO donors in immunotherapy. It is suggested that low/moderate levels of NO may promote tumorigenesis, while higher levels have anti-tumor effects. The use of NO donors in immunotherapy shows therapeutic potential, although clinical trials are lacking.

Chemical Physical Characterization and Profile of Fruit Volatile Compounds from Different Accesses of Myrciaria floribunda (H. West Ex Wild.) O. Berg through Polyacrylate Fiber

Yesenia Mendoza Garcia et al.

Summary: Myrciaria floribunda, also known as rumberry, cambuizeiro, or guavaberry, is a native fruit of Brazil with significant variability in fruit color when ripe. The physical-chemical characteristics and volatile organic compounds of this fruit were evaluated, indicating that it can be consumed fresh or processed industrially, with red fruits having a good balance of SS/TA. Caryophyllene and gamma-selinene were identified as the predominant compounds in rumberry fruits.

Optimization of extraction and identification of volatile compounds from Myrciaria floribunda

Yesenia Mendoza Garcia et al.

Summary: The study determined the volatile profile of rumberry fruits using solid-phase microextraction in headspace mode and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. It was found that the polyacrylate (PA) fiber had better performance in extracting volatile compounds, with sesquiterpenes being the most present chemical class in the fruits. The optimum extraction conditions included extraction times greater than 26 minutes, temperatures above 85 degrees C, and an agitation of 79 rpm for the PA fiber.
