Whole-genome sequencing of Egyptian multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates: a multi-center pilot study

May Sherif et al.

Summary: The study conducted whole-genome sequencing of 39 multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strains from nine Egyptian hospitals, identifying 18 sequence types with ST101 and ST147 being the most common. Phylogenetic analyses revealed closely related isolates in some centers, mostly acquired independently or imported. The most commonly detected acquired resistance gene was bla(CTX-M-15), with several carbapenemase genes also identified.
