The effect of intermittent anode potential regimes on the morphology and extracellular matrix composition of electro-active bacteria

Joao Pereira et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electron balance of bioanodes under intermittent anode potential regimes. The use of a transparent non-capacitive electrode and intermittent anode potential resulted in the diversion of electrons to planktonic cells and the accumulation of electrons in the form of soluble extracellular polymeric substances (EPS).

Reduced graphene oxide@polydopamine decorated carbon cloth as an anode for a high-performance microbial fuel cell in Congo red/saline wastewater removal

Haojia Liu et al.

Summary: A dopamine-decorated reduced oxide graphene anode on carbon cloth for microbial fuel cells was prepared, providing superhydrophilicity, high conductivity, good biocompatibility, and long-term stability. This structure promoted bacteria growth, electron transfer, and achieved high performance MFC with fast startup time and efficient decolorization.

Carbon Nano-Fiber/PDMS Composite Used as Corrosion-Resistant Coating for Copper Anodes in Microbial Fuel Cells

Fatma Bensalah et al.

Summary: The study presents the development of a new coating for Cu anode material in Microbial Fuel Cells, enhancing its performance by reducing corrosion rate and improving electrical conductivity and electrochemical properties. The optimal weight ratio of CNF/PDMS mixture was found to be 8%, resulting in the best electrical conductivity and electrochemical properties.Additionally, the study showed that the highest power density was achieved with a 500 μm thick CNF-PDMS coating, significantly outperforming unmodified Cu anodes in terms of stability and power output.
