Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling in Neural Stem Cell Homeostasis and Neurological Diseases

Juanmei Gao et al.

Summary: The Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway plays a crucial role in regulating the balance of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSCs) proliferation and differentiation, which is essential for the development and maintenance of the nervous system. Recent findings suggest that components of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway are involved in the regulation of functional brain circuits, providing potential therapeutic targets for neurological diseases.

Placental mRNA and Protein Expression of VDR, CYP27B1 and CYP2R1 Genes Related to Vitamin D Metabolism in Preeclamptic Women

Justyna Magielda-Stola et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the genes and proteins expression of vitamin D receptor (VDR) and hydrolases in placentas from preeclamptic women. Results showed lower VDR expression and higher CYP27B1 and CYP2R1 expression in preeclamptic placentas, suggesting their potential roles in preeclampsia development. Placental VDR protein levels were inversely correlated with blood pressure and positively correlated with gestational age and infant birth weight, indicating its influence on pregnancy outcomes.

Hippo signaling: bridging the gap between cancer and neurodegenerative disorders

Neha Gogia et al.

Summary: Regulation of organ size during development requires a balance between cell proliferation, growth, and cell death. The Hippo signaling pathway plays a crucial role in controlling both cell proliferation and cell death. Neurodegenerative diseases result from progressive death of neuronal population, with no available cure to date.
