Successful storage of Trichomonas gallinae on Whatman FTA cards following culture

Rebecca C. Thomas et al.

Summary: Logistical constraints in storing parasite samples can hinder genetic variation discovery on a global scale. This study tested the suitability of Whatman FTA cards and ethanol for storing Trichomonas gallinae samples collected from wild Columbiformes in Africa. Results showed that FTA cards can be used to estimate infection prevalence, while ethanol storage yields higher quality genetic strain data.
