Morpho-anatomical characterization of some members of euglenophycota (algae) of north-east Punjab, Pakistan based on light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

Nadeem Ullah et al.

Summary: The study conducted in Punjab, Pakistan identified 21 species of Euglenophycota, with Euglena being the most diverse genus and considered as an indicator species of polluted water. Specifically, E. oblonga was found in a wide pH range, while E. brevicaudatus was observed at the highest electrical conductivity levels.

Micromorphological characters variation of lemma and palea in subtribe of Loliinae (Poaceae)

Raheleh Tabaripour et al.

Summary: The subtribe Loliinae, consisting of around 600 species, is one of the largest subtribes of the Poeae tribe. Festuca genus, closely related to Lolium, Castellia, and Vulpia, has a complex taxonomic history. The study used SEM techniques to evaluate micromorphology of lemma and palea surfaces of 33 species in the subtribe, revealing difficulties in identification due to morphological similarities. Some micromorphological features were found to be important for species identification, but overall, the features were not sufficient for subgeneric or sectional delimitation of the Festuca genus.

Characterization of anatomical foliar epidermal features of herbaceous flora of Tilla Jogian, Pakistan by using light microscopy techniques

Kanwal Shahzad et al.

Summary: In this study, 22 herbaceous plant specimens were examined using a light microscope to investigate leaf epidermal anatomy. Significant variations in qualitative and quantitative features were observed, providing valuable insights for taxonomists. The foliar epidermal anatomy of herbaceous flora can serve as baseline data for demarcation and limitation of associated taxa.

Micromorphological differentiation of Korean Disporum species using light and scanning electron microscopy

Hyeonjin Kim et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed description of leaf, floral, pollen, and orbicule micromorphology of four Korean Disporum species using light and scanning electron microscopy. The presence of orbicules and their taxonomic implications in Korean Disporum species are described for the first time, and phylogenetically informative characters are identified to improve understanding of the systematic relationships of Korean species in the genus Disporum.
