Confocal laser endomicroscopy in gastro-intestinal endoscopy: technical aspects and clinical applications

Summary: Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is an advanced endoscopic imaging technology that provides a magnified, cellular level view of gastrointestinal epithelia. It has moderate to high diagnostic accuracy for neoplastic and inflammatory conditions through the gastrointestinal tract. CLE can resolve diagnostic dilemmas in cases where conventional imaging fails and reduce the need for extensive tissue sampling. However, limitations include a narrow field of view, high capital costs, and specialized operator training requirements.

A Diagnostic Method for Gastric Cancer Using Two-Photon Microscopy With Enzyme-Selective Fluorescent Probes: A Pilot Study

Summary: In this study, we used two-photon microscopy with fluorescent probes to visualize and measure enzyme activity in gastric cancer. The results showed significant differences in beta-gal and CES activity between normal tissue and cancer, indicating the potential of this novel method for gastric cancer diagnosis. The method enabled visual differentiation and quantitative depth profiling of gastric cancer, showing promising diagnostic capabilities.
