Bimetallic nitrogen-doped porous graphene for highly efficient magnetic solid phase extraction of 5-nitroimidazoles in environmental water

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: Fe/Ni bimetallic nitrogen-doped porous graphene nanomaterials were successfully prepared and used as magnetic solid phase extraction adsorbents for the determination of 5-nitroimidazoles in environmental water samples. The introduction of nitrogen increased the dispersion and active sites of the materials. The adsorption behavior of Fe/Ni-NPG for 5-NDZs was investigated, and several factors including π-π electron donor-acceptor interaction, hydrogen bond, and electrostatic interaction were found to contribute to the excellent adsorption properties. The method based on Fe/Ni-NPG provided accurate and reliable detection of 5-NDZs in environmental water samples.

One-pot synthesis of bismuth yttrium tungstate nanosheet decorated 3D-BiOBr nanoflower heterostructure with enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity

Thirungnanam Bavani et al.

Summary: A visible light driven BiOBr/BixY1-xWO6 nanocomposite photocatalyst with superior photocatalytic ability, low bandgap, and high photoluminescence emission intensity was prepared by the addition of 1.5 mmol of KBr in BixY1-xWO6 using a one-pot hydrothermal method. The radical scavenging studies showed the important roles of center dot OH and h(+) in the decomposition of methylene blue. The optimized photocatalyst demonstrated excellent photostability and reusability properties.

Visible light degradation of tetracycline using oxygen-rich titanium dioxide nanosheets decorated by carbon quantum dots

Xinghao Liu et al.

Summary: A novel composite material CQD-OTNs was synthesized and applied for the photo-degradation of TC, showing significantly enhanced degradation efficiency compared to pure titanium dioxide nanosheets. The improved photocatalytic activity of CQD-OTNs was attributed to the constructed oxygen enriched structure and CQDs, leading to the effective separation of electron-hole pairs and enhanced degradation of TC with generated hydroxyl and superoxide radicals.

Enhanced tetracycline degradation and power generation in a solar-illuminated bio-photoelectrochemical system

Yexin Dai et al.

Summary: In this study, a bio-photoelectrochemical system (BPES) was constructed to degrade tetracycline (TC) efficiently and generate electricity simultaneously. The system showed high columbic efficiency (CE) and mineralized current efficiency (MCE), with a maximum power density of 133 mW/m2 under light illumination. The primary active oxidant in the system was identified as superoxy group (?O2-), and a mechanism for enhanced TC degradation was proposed.

Photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline under visible light using TiO2@sulfur doped carbon nitride nanocomposite synthesized via in-situ method

Krishnan Divakaran et al.

Summary: This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of a TiO2 nanoparticles assembled sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride (SCN) nanocomposite, which exhibits higher photocatalytic activity towards tetracycline (TC) degradation under visible light. The nanocomposite catalyst shows good stability and reusability for five consecutive photocatalytic degradation experiments, attributed to effective charge separation and less recombination of electron and hole pairs. Further optimization of catalyst weight, pH, and TC concentration were discussed, along with radical scavenger studies confirming the role of electrons and superoxide radicals in the photo-degradation of TC.
