Differences in Physiological and Perceptual Responses to High Intensity Interval Exercise Between Arm and Leg Cycling

Todd A. Astorino et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of high intensity interval exercise performed on the arm and leg cycle ergometer on oxygen uptake, heart rate, blood lactate concentration, affective valence, and rating of perceived exertion. The results showed that leg cycling elicited higher relative heart rate and blood lactate concentration, and lower affective valence, making these modes not interchangeable.
