An Extreme Case of Bioprosthetic Valve Thrombosis in a Patient With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome

Summary: Bioprosthetic valve thrombosis (BPVT) is increasingly recognized as a major cause of prosthetic dysfunction postimplantation. Early abnormal gradients can be detected months before clinical BPVT diagnosis, and response to anticoagulation is faster in mitral and surgical aortic porcine valves.
