A synergistic effect between S-scheme heterojunction and Noble-metal free cocatalyst to promote the hydrogen evolution of ZnO/CdS/MoS2 photocatalyst

Yanlin Jia et al.

Summary: An efficient ZnO/CdS/MoS2 photocatalyst was constructed to synergistically promote the photocatalytic H-2 evolution of CdS. The optimized heterojunction ZCM-3 exhibited the highest H-2 evolution rate, indicating stability and enhanced performance originating from fast electron transfer, intimate contact, and the synergistic effect between the S-scheme and cocatalyst. A possible mechanism was speculated based on the results, enriching the research for S-scheme heterojunction photocatalytic systems and providing new insights for efficient H-2 production photocatalyst design.

Highly Efficient Simulated Solar Light-Driven Photocatalytic Degradation of 4-Nitrophenol over CdS/Carbon/MoSx Hybrids

Konstantinos Kostelenos et al.

Summary: This research presents the microwave-assisted synthesis of CdS/carbon/MoSx hybrids used as photocatalysts for degrading 4-nitrophenol. The hybrids showed variable photocatalytic activity, with the ternary composite using ascorbic acid as a precursor exhibiting excellent performance in degrading 4-nitrophenol within 45 minutes of irradiation. This suggests potential applications of such ternary hybrids in removing toxic water-soluble substances.

Inactive Cu2O Cubes Become Highly Photocatalytically Active with Ag2S Deposition

Ting-Yu Liang et al.

Summary: By lightly depositing Ag2S nanoparticles on Cu2O cubes, significant photocatalytic activity was observed, supported by XRD and XPS analysis. The heterostructures showed enhanced activity, confirmed by EPR and photoluminescence measurements, indicating a potential Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism at the interface. Unexpectedly, separately synthesized Ag2S particles were found to be photocatalytically inactive.

A facile approach to synthesize CdS-attapulgite as a photocatalyst for reduction reactions in water

Ruixiao Ma et al.

Summary: A facile method was used to prepare CdS-attapulgite composites at room temperature, and the CdS-20%ATP composite showed excellent photocatalytic activity in reducing p-nitrophenol and Cr(vi). Characterization of the composites was done using BET specific surface area, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to understand the key factors contributing to the improved photocatalytic efficiency. The presence of attapulgite in the composites was found to enhance electron transfer, preventing agglomeration of CdS, thus promoting their photocatalytic performance.

Ternary Co3O4/CdS/SrTiO3 core-shell pn junctions toward enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production activity

Zhanfen Chen et al.

Summary: A ternary Co3O4/CdS/SrTiO3 core-shell pn junction is fabricated by depositing a CdS shell on the surface of a SrTiO3 nanosphere, followed by growing p-type Co3O4 lamellas on the CdS/SrTiO3 core-shell heterojunction surface. The resulting structure shows a 15-fold enhancement in hydrogen evolution ability compared to single SrTiO3 nanospheres, attributed to the narrow band gaps of CdS and Co3O4 increasing visible light response and efficient charge carrier transfer into water. Additionally, the core-shell structure provides active sites and shortens the photoelectron transport path to improve photocatalytic stability.
