Green nanotechnology has been utilized to synthesize silver nanoparticles from red algae K. alvarezii, which have low toxicity and cost-effectiveness. The bioactive molecules extracted from K. alvarezii were used as potential reducing agents, successfully controlling bacterial growth with the synthesized nanoparticles.
Green nanotechnology has been used to synthesize nanoparticles in a less toxic and cost-effective way when compared to chemical methods. Algae serve as a natural resource that is valuable in a wide range of applications and is abundantly available in nature. In this study, Kappaphycus alvarezii a red algae, loaded with plethora of important secondary metabolites was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles. The bioactive molecules from K. alvarezii have been employed as potential reducing agents for silver nanoparticles (KaNp) synthesis. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized with UV visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Various antimicrobial assays were performed with clinical strains of E. coli to analyze the antibacterial activity of K. alvarezii mediated silver nanoparticles. The results showed that the algal mediated nanoparticles were synthesized effectively and can control the bacterial growth.
